ALL GROWN UP – A Wishlist

I’ll probably move this to it’s own page later.
Just a list of random things I’m looking to get in preparation for my post-graduate journey into an actual career in the legal field.

2. A DARK BLUE SKIRTSUIT – Would you believe me if I told you I haven’t found one I like since I started searching a year and a half ago!? I’ll find a skirt, but not a matching coat, or vice versa. Or they’re like $200 each and I’m not making any money yet….Anyway, the search continues. Time to check out Ann Taylor and The Limited.

3. BLACK BOOTS – Ideally, these boots will (1) be leather or suede, (2) have some treads on the bottom for traction in this stupid winter weather and (3) fit underneath black suit pants so I can wear them to Court in the winter instead of wearing my black pumps.

4. NUDE PUMPS – I already have black pumps, but need nude pumps. No more than a 2 – 2.5 inch heel so they’re comfortable for commuting to the Court, standing all day, and commuting back home.

5. BLACK PEA COAT – Again, something professional looking. I have one from freshmean year of college but it’s a little tight now and has shiny buttons. Preferably not something I’m wearing to Court.

6. MORE PENCIL SKIRTS – Not just in black, but in dark greys, blues, and other work-appropriate colors as well.

7. KNEE LENGTH DRESSES – Simple and minimalist are the key words here. Neutral colors, nothing over the top, and it has to hit the knee.

9. NETBOOK/TABLET – These are pretty much in order of importance, and this one’s not too important. But if I can buy a netbook or a tablet (something sleek that still retains functionality) and a case that incorporates a keyboard, my options for black handbags open up and I have something much more portable and convenient to carry to Court with me. Preferably not an iPad, but we’ll see.

Sony Xperia Z2 or Z3

Samsung Galaxy Tab S, 10.5 inch

Google Nexus 9

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 or 3

I despise cell phone companies

I have the worst luck with my cellphones 😦 I need to start taking better care of them.

Towards the end of last year I managed to dip my HTC One M7 in oil – WTF, right!? This is after I had previously cracked the screen already and needed to get that replaced. After the oil incident, getting it replaced meant changing its screen again as well as the microphone component, but it still wasn’t working right. I sold it on eBay over the weekend and I’m shipping it out on Monday. BUT in the meantime, I need to do some phone searching for a new one to take its place. While I search for my next phone, I’m reverting to an old iPhone 4 that still only runs on a 3G network. CRAI.

Further, although I am technically eligible for an upgrade via AT&T, they have changed to the cell phone plans from hell and no longer offer us “free” upgrades with 2 year contracts. If I want a new phone through AT&T, I will have two options, both of which were written by THE DEVIL HIMSELF, that’s how manipulative and terrible they are.

With AT&T, an “upgrade” now means one of the following:

  1. You pay for the new phone outright. Retail price ($500-600 for most phones, as you know)
  2. You sign up for the AT&T “Next” plan. You pay for the new phone outright ($500-600) over 30, 24, or 12 months. It gets added to your phone bill. Your phone line costs $25/month (And then most phones end up being $20-30/month) ICING ON THE CAKE: AFTER YOU’RE DONE “PAYING” FOR YOUR PHONE, YOU DON’T EVEN GET TO KEEP IT. You return it to AT&T and “upgrade” to a new phone which you will begin paying for same as you did for the other one you didn’t get to keep. Otherwise, you pay it off, keep it, and then start paying off a new phone. Do this over and over for the rest of your miserable life because AT&T sucks.
  3. You get a standard 2-year contract “upgrade” and pay $100-250 for your phone depending on what you want. HOWEVER, now you are not on the AT&T “Next” plan and your phone line costs $40/month.
  4. Bring your own phone (ie. buy it elsewhere I guess, or if you happen to have a phone from your previous phone provider that you want to keep) – this is the option I’m going with. You buy the phone however you want to, and AT&T will keep the at&t next pricing of $25/m for your line.

THERE IS NO WINNING. AT&T SUCKS BALLS. I’m now scouring eBay for new phone deals. Here are my options as I see them

1. Get an HTC One M7 again. $150-200 on eBay

2. Get an HTC One M8 – an upgrade from the phone I had. I am tempted to do this since the HTC One M7 came out in 2013 and if I’m paying to buy a new phone, I might as well use this opportunity to upgrade as well.

3. Get a Samsung Galaxy S4 or S5 – I feel like this is a “sellout” phone, as it is such a cliche Android phone that a lot of people flock to it without quite understanding why they want it. I like being different, but even I have to admit that the S4 and S5 are good phones.

4. Get an LG G3 – This is appealing to me more and more, almost more than the Galaxy S4 and S5 even. It’s powerful, but I don’t see too many of them on eBay in my budget (under $200). I have also heard that LG is pretty slow to get Android updates.

5. Get the Moto X 2014. Not a very popular choice but apparently a great phone. A lot of people complain that it’s very Stock Android, but I use the Aviate launcher anyway to customize my user interface, so that doesn’t really matter to me. Motorola is one of the first brands that pumps out Android updates. Phones had Andorid 5.0 Lollipop before any of the others did.

6. Get NONE of the above and wait until this year’s phones start coming out. HTC is releasing this year’s flagship phone in March, the LG G Flex 2 is coming soon. I’m sure there will be a Galaxy 6 at some point…just depends on how long I can deal with having an iPhone 4 I suppose. You all know how much I hate Apple after all.
