Theme Thirteen – An Adventure

Theme Thirteen (PRYANKA): This will be a story of adventure, bravado, courage, determination, strength (or sheer luck), and fun. You must create a "main" character who you will then send on a journey. The journey should be a physically arduous one. Write a story where the focus isn’t tragedy or drama, but the sheer fun of going on an adventure.

Restrictions: The adventure must physically take place, it cannot simply be a dream, a fantasy, or an adventure of the imagination. No poetry. No sad endings.  No length requirements either.

Deadline: Monday, August 16 @ 11:59 PM

Penalty: For not completing this theme on time, you must go back and complete a punishment created for one of the previous themes that never had a chance to be implemented. To make things easier, the following themes were completed on time by all members. Their respective punishments went unused, so you will have the choice to complete one of them. Deadline for the penalty will remain the last day of Project Theme (Monday, August 23).

Themes with unused punishments:  theme1, theme3theme10theme12

If I missed one but you know that nobody was given that punishment, you can go ahead & use it, just let me know so I can update this post.

Project Theme
Every week, Nabila or myself (Or maybe Melissa or Albert) will post a theme upon which members of Project Theme must write an entry. Theme creation will be alternated between the both of us, and all participants are required to respond to the theme in a timely manner. The deadline will always be exactly seven (7) days after the theme is posted, but the restrictions and penalties are to be created at our discretion. "

Note: All incomplete penalties must be posted by Monday, August 23, 2010. That is also the last day of Project Theme for this summer!

Congratulations guys, it was an amazing summer in terms of my writing – I’ve produced a lot of creative work that I’m proud of, and I’m really happy that these fifteen weeks of Project Theme will be remembered. It’s a long time to be so dedicated to an online optional obligation over the summer, so thank you guys for not giving up!

The four of us have pretty much come to a consensus on how to run Theme Fifteen I believe….we’ll all talk on AIM sometime this weekend hopefully and deliberate over what we want to do specifically.

Theme Twelve – Senseless

Theme Twelve (MELISSA): Write a piece where the main character is missing one of their 5 main senses. The origin of this loss can be a part of your story, or might not be, but the story must be written in the 1st person and you must utilize the other 4 senses to describe their story. Keep in mind when a person loses one of their main senses, their other senses are heightened.

Restrictions: None. =) Really. Other than the ones I already described of course, 1stperson, descriptive, yadda yadda, and all that.

Deadline: Monday, August 9 @ 11:59 PM

Penalty: Create a concrete poem, you know one of those poems that’s in the shape of what it describes?  And make it really pretty and such, and then you can either scan the original copy you make or photograph it (if you choose to draw it, you can make a digital copy too I suppose, I’m just thinking of hand drawing cause I like to draw), and post that copy as well as a typed up  copy. If you  don’t understand what I’m saying, which I grant may be the case because I don’t think I explained it well, you may ask me for a visual example, and I will draw you a pretty little picture of what I’m talking about. Thank you come again soon.

Theme Eleven – Villainy

Theme Eleven [ALBERT]:
The next theme will be villainy. Put yourself in the mind of a villain, detail a crime and how you commit it whether supernatural, unoriginal, petty, or grand larceny. Bonus points for originality – have fun 😀

Length Requirement: There is no length requirement, it only has to be long enough to detail your crimes and your method of carrying it out. The piece, however, must be poetry. Good luck.

Punishment: If you cannot finish this piece, you will owe me a tribute to how great I am using at least 5 words that are over ten letters long, in a rhyming piece that is a page single spaced. And then you can stroke my ego a little more by ending your next 5 posts with: "Albert Wang is probably the greatest thing to come out of the 20th century."

Deadline: Monday, August 2 @ 11:59PM

Note I will not (see how it’s bold and underlined? That means I mean business :O ) accept any unfinished entries posted early to avoid punishment. There is no length requirement; you have no excuses to not finish on time except your lack of creativity. Clearly, this all means that I am a huge egoist and only wish for you guys to have to inflate my already dangerously large ego. Regardless, please finish on time 🙂

Theme Ten – Death of the Character

Theme Ten (MELISSA):  Good souls, brace yourselves for the ultimate challenge, the coup de grace of all forbidden writing- the death of the beloved character. I’m not talking about no sappy suicide, this is the death of the hero- the most precious and coddled possesion of the writer. I’m looking for a grand finale. Make me feel love and empathy for the condemned, and than, break my heart.

Restriction: I want to get a nice story going before the deed is done, have time to feel for the character, so a minimum of 2 pages single spaced for prose and 1 page for poems and all other lyrical work.

Deadline: July 26, 2010 @ 11:59PM

Penalty: Death by hanging. No really. JK. XD (But wouldn’t that be something?) You have to make Melissa a painting, one she can proudly display in her dorm room, and it has to be in the style of pop art to compliment her newly acquired Andy Warhol. (I’m really hoping for failure from you guys.) If Melissa fails to complete this on time, or at all, she will supply everyone that finished on time with their very own Melissa constructed art piece of their choosing.

Theme Nine – A Deeper Meaning

Theme Nine (PRYANKA): For this theme, you are to write a parable in the form of a story, poem, or song. If you choose to write the lyrics to a song, there must be at least six unique verses in addition to the refrain. (That makes for about seven stanzas of unique writing, which seems decent to me)

Page Limit: Minimum of 7 unique stanzas of writing for a song, minimum of 7 stanzas for a poem, and a minimum of 2 pages (double-spaced) for a short story. There are no maximums – write as much as you would like.

Restriction:
No borrowed lyrics or poetry for this piece. Other than that, there are no subject boundaries – write whatever you wish to write about.

Deadline:
July 19, 2010 @ 11:59PM

Penalty: For missing the deadline or only posting a partial entry, you must ask another participant of Project Theme to collaborate with you in writing a short story (No page limits, but be reasonable. If it’s like 3 sentences long or something like that, then I won’t count it). The writer you ask is not obligated to do anything with you, so it’s up to you to cajole them into helping you complete your punishment. Writers you can choose from are here –

(I will explain that last username in a blog entry soon! If you’re dying with curiosity, send me a text or IM or FB message or something)

Theme Eight – Peace

Theme Eight [NABILA]: Peace, or serenity. You can take this anyway you want, because ‘peace’ may mean different things to different people.
Restrictions: Cannot be over five pages double-spaced.
Deadline: Monday, July 12, 11:59 p.m.
Penalty: For missing the deadline, write a quick poem about something you did during the week of the theme

Theme Seven – The Power of Music

Theme Seven (ALBERT): This theme is based on music. We’ve all heard inspiring pieces of music, music that elicited strong emotional responses, music with stories behind them. Some artists are better at conveying this effect than others. The assignment this time is to pick a song and write a story based on that song. Continuing in that vein, write a poem that may not be directly linked to the song, but directly linked to the overall theme of the story. Confusing, I know. See me with any questions.

Page Limit: This theme is for the truly hardcore. Minimum 5 pages (yes, five) on Microsoft Word. Single spaced. The poem must be at least 1.5, same deal, single spaced.

Restriction
: Your choice of artists is limited to: Taylor Swift, Queen, Rise Against, Eminem, Green Day, Adam Lambert and Kanye West. If you don’t listen to any of those artists, you don’t listen to American music. The poem must rhyme. .

Deadline
: Monday July 5th, 2010, 2010 @ 11:59 pm

Penalty:If you miss the deadline, you have to buy Albert a hat. The hat must gain Albert’s approval before purchasing, you are allowed to pool together with other people who failed the deadline to make this purchase. The purchase must be made and delivered to Albert by Oct. 21 2010. If you are not hardcore enough for this theme, I may be persuaded to change it. I am open to negotiations. If I cannot meet this theme. I will buy all of you hats. They will be awesome.
